Post Children dealing with pet's death
Does anyone have any advice for handling the death of a beloved pet dog with young children, namely boys ages 7 and 2? My gut tells me to lay it right out, as it is, but I'd appreciate any tips or suggestions on strategy.

Post loss of pet
Tell them straight out but you might want to tell them that their pet went to doggy heaven. That seems to help. Then as soon as they have settled down get them busy and keep them busy. I am 60 years old and recently lost a pet. I cried and cried then got really busy. I will keep them in my prayers. Good Luck.

There is a great book for kids called Dog Heaven by Cynthia Rylant

You can usually find it at the bigger bookstores or at www.dogwise.com

Post children dealing with a pet death
I realize this is not an uncommon scenario, but it is never easy. I had purchased an urn as a memorial for our kids. There are beautiful sites out there such as http://www.primaurns.com/ that have great products. Something beautiful to celebrate the life and passing of a family pet can be a good thing. It certainly helped.

There are many ways to deal with this grief. You can tell them slowly about your doggy. There are many books available which helps to children. Don't worry your child will deal with this grief. I will hold you in my prayers.
